Floan-Sanders, Inc. began business as Don Floan Consulting Engineer in 1956. The company first provided engineering services to East Grand Forks and Polk County and gradually expanded to serve numerous other communities, townships, and other clients in the surrounding area.
In 1972, employee Gary Sanders, PE became a partner and the business name was officially changed to Floan-Sanders, Inc. The company became especially skilled at securing Small Cities Grants for communities in northwestern Minnesota and handled an estimated $25 million in these types of projects since the program's inception, including the $7.5 million Warroad airport expansion.
The 1997 Red River Flood, which devastated the cities of Grand Forks and East Grand Forks and forced the evacuation of both communities, was one of the most significant events in the company's history. As East Grand Forks' Consulting City Engineer, Floan-Sanders staff was extensively involved in the community's immediate disaster recovery and long-term rebirth. Most significant was the $417 million US Army Corps of Engineers flood protection project, which began in 1997 and was completed on schedule 10 years later.
In 2003, long-time employees Greg Boppre and Brad Bail became President and Vice-President of the firm, after the retirement of Gary Sanders and Dean Wieland. They currently own and operate the company, which is considered a "small business enterprise" as defined by the federal government. We are an equal opportunity employer that strives to give full opportunity to all Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs).
